Accountability: The Most Misused Word in Fitness

“Accountability” has become a bit of a buzzword in fitness over the last few years.

And I’ll be honest, I’ve got some very strong thoughts on it.

After a few recent conversations, I think it’s time to share them.

At Elevate98, accountability is one of the biggest reasons people who’ve struggled to stay consistent in the past finally succeed here.

But here’s the thing…
Accountability is not hand-holding.

I’m not throwing shade at other coaches — everyone’s got their own approach — but messaging clients three times a day to check if they’ve had a “healthy” breakfast, lunch, and dinner isn’t what I see as real coaching.

Sure, it might work for a few weeks.
You’ll see results.
But the moment that constant supervision stops, the results vanish because there’s no substance behind it.

At Elevate98, we build autonomy first.
Our goal is for you to not need us, but to want to keep training with us because it genuinely fits your life.

After six months, I want our members to feel confident walking into any gym, anywhere.

That’s why we don’t do weekly “check-ins” or endless texts.
We see our members an average of 2.8 times a week, which allows us to truly gauge how they’re doing and offer meaningful support.

And when someone wants to dial things in, we run mini accountability groups like our current Finish Strong phase. These give members extra structure for 6–8 weeks.

We’ve found that the sweet spot — the Goldilocks Zone — is around 40 weeks a year focused on consistency and sustainability, and 10–12 weeks where we dial in with a bit more intensity.

Because fitness shouldn’t be a 6-week sprint.
It should be a 5-year journey that actually fits your life.
