Fight the crocodile closest to the boat.

The good thing about the modern world is that information and advice has never been so readily or cheaply available.

The bad thing about the modern world is that information and advice has never been so readily or cheaply available.

The other big issue is the credibility (or lack) of the people selling you the information but that's a story for another day.

It is EXHAUSTING trying to work out where to start.

I was speaking to a woman in the midst of the menopause the other day and we were chatting about some of the information on social media.

If she listened to everything she heard on TikTok, Instagram and podcasts she would:

-Strength train 4x per week with an expert coach.

-Do Yoga 2x per week.

-Do Pilates 2x per week.

-Hire a nutritionist.

-Get her blood work done.

-Maybe do Ice baths and heat therapy.

-1 million other things.

Oh yeah, she also has a full time job, a family, a social life and doesn't have an unlimited source of funds!!

This is one pretty specific goal but it's the same for many of us.

My advice is always that it's pretty silly to worry about the crocodile at the edge of the lake when one is boarding the boat!

It's difficult (and that's where us and other professionals come in) but try and think of you're health and fitness like a video game.

You want to start at the bottom and ascend up the levels.

Initially just going to the gym 2-4x per week is the game.

Then we maybe get more structure.

Maybe we then try and make sure we hit protein at each of our meals and do our 10,000 steps.

And so on and so on. The reality is lots of us (myself very much included) are majoring in the minors, we are doing the 1% tasks which while important aren't what's going to move the needle.

So next time you are looking at the next thing you need to do or change with you're health and fitness (or indeed any aspect of life) consider which Crocodile is trying to kill you now!
