The Hard Truth About Results We Think We Want

“It doesn’t make sense to continue wanting something if you’re not willing to do what it takes to get it.”
James Clear

I heard that quote while listening to a podcast on holiday, and it hit me right in the chest.

Because we’ve all done this—we want the outcome, but we don’t want to make the trade-offs that go with it. I see it all the time with members here at Elevate98 and I’ve been just as guilty of it myself.

We say things like:

  • “I want the body of an athlete.”
  • “I want to look the way I did 15 years ago.”
  • “I want six-pack abs.”

But we also want:

  • To enjoy our weekends without counting calories.
  • To give our time and energy to our family and career.
  • To avoid sacrificing sleep, freedom, or flexibility.

And here’s the truth…

You’re Not the Problem—Your Expectations Might Be

We forget the version of ourselves we’re comparing to didn’t have the same responsibilities.

No kids. No full-time job. No mortgage. No team to lead.

Or we compare ourselves to professional athletes—whose lives revolve around performance, nutrition, recovery, and coaching.

We can’t give 30% and expect 100% results.

And honestly? Most of us don’t actually want what it takes to get “extreme” results. We just want to:

  • Feel good in our clothes again.
  • Move without pain.
  • Be strong and energised for the life we’re already living.

The Elevate98 Philosophy: Real People. Real Results.

At Elevate98, this mindset is exactly what we coach.

You won’t see us promise 6-pack abs in 6 weeks.
We won’t tell you to overhaul your entire life.
We help people over 40 get stronger, fitter, and healthier—without sacrificing the things that matter most.

We train people with jobs, businesses, families, and knees that click.
People who want results that support their life, not take over it.

Because success doesn’t have to mean shredded abs or deadlifting 250kg.
It might look like:

  • Getting out of bed without back pain.
  • Running around with your kids without feeling winded.
  • Feeling more confident in a t-shirt on holiday.

So this is your reminder that if you don’t have ‘huge’ goals then that’s okay, you probably wouldn’t want what it takes to get them anyway!

What You Can Do Next

If you’ve been struggling to get results—and quietly beating yourself up for it—this is your permission slip to let go of the extremes.

Start small. Stay consistent. Focus on the version of success that fits your life now.
